Rear Axle Lubrication - williamsderbys - 23-10-2017
What would be the modern equivalent of the oil/grease mix used in vintage chummy rear axles.?
Would D140 do ? or too thin!

A similar thread is running below which contains the information you need.
I have found D140 and EP140 (Hipress) oils are perfectly suited for this application.
EP140 (Hypoid) oil is not suitable for this application.
I jack up the chassis, allowing the axle to hang down freely, and then fill until it just starts to come out of the filler hole, overfilling beyond this is not recommended and may result in oil contaminating the rear brake linings.

Morris do AG140. Straight
Do not rule out their 'compounded' 460 bearing oils which are designed for yellow metals.
