Ruby ignition light - Tiger - 28-08-2019

Hi People
Could someone confirm the spec. for the resistor.
Does it have to be wire wound ?
Regards
            Tim

RE: Ruby ignition light - Ian McGowan - 28-08-2019

Hi Tim, the resistor is 30 Ohms, it doesn't have to be wire wound as long as it is rated at 1 Watt or greater. You could leave it out completely and change the bulb from a 2.5V 0.2A to a 9v 0.2A or 0.3A as was used on early coil ignition chummys (e.g. my 1929 tourer).

Thanks Ian
The 9v bulb sounds great

I have to say Tim that 9v bulbs are rather like Hen's teeth, I had a few because of other interests 40 years ago!! however, as an adequate substitute, David Cochrane sells 6v bulbs. BG115B is his part number, which will do the job.

Thanks again Ian.

Two on order.

Even better Stuart, thanks for the link. Idea

I always use a 12v MES bulb as was fitted for instrument lighting in the forties and fifties. I forget the rating, possibly 0.5 watt.

Come to fit the suggested 9v bulb.
Side of bulb not making contact
Is it best to bend the bulb holder ?
I have two original lights both the same
Don’t want to damage the holders

Hope the chummy is going well except for the heat problem. If you search “boiling petrol” on here you can see the mods I have done to sort it out. The next alteration was to turn the loop to horizontal instead of vertical as was suggested. Also the rubber wedge mod under the rear of the bonnet.
Regards to Anne. Mike is doing his usual top quality job as mag editor.
Cheers,
Dave.
