The same cars, often now sought after V8 coupes, available then for L50 or so. I used to attend at Palmerston North. The lightly reinforced cars ploughed into the fence and each other and stopped in a cloud of steam. It was far and away the most exciting sporting event I have ever watched. Comparable the chariot race from Ben Hur.The whole crowd would be on their feet shouting. By contrast F1 is as exciring as slot car racing. Modern stock cars are absurdly armoured and the spectacle is gone. The cars were A framed from 100 miles around and the remnants A framed home. Now a vehicle has to have and be of a w.o.f standard to be towed... |
