Mystery brake cylinder - Belinni - 10-05-2019 Trying to help out a fellow Austin 7 enthusiast in France. His car has an old Hydraulic brake conversion, it seems to have a retro fitted brake cylinder to his Girling back plate. Can any help with identifying the cylinder? Reliant and Morris 1000 were suggested, but don’t seem to be the same as this. RE: Mystery brake cylinder - Ruairidh Dunford - 10-05-2019 Paul, This looks to be a very early Girling hydraulic cylinder. RE: Mystery brake cylinder - Belinni - 10-05-2019 Ruairidh, Thanks but what car would this be off? He’s hoping to use the back plates and fit new cylinders. RE: Mystery brake cylinder - Hedd_Jones - 10-05-2019 its not off an Austin 7, thats for sure. RE: Mystery brake cylinder - Jeff Taylor - 10-05-2019 They appear similar though not exactly identical to the Lockheed rear wheel cylinders on the 1948 to 1952 Morris Series MM Minor - i.e. the 8hp side-valve engined cars not the the later O.H.V. Morris Minor Series 2 and Minor 1000. Though not exactly identical, it may well be that you could substitute these Series MM Minor ones for the cylinders your friend currently has fitted to his Girling backplates. ESM in the UK stock these at £22.74 inc. VAT. Note they're 7/8" bore. http://www.morrisminorspares.com/brakes-c42/rear-brakes-c50/rear-brake-cylinder-1948-1962-7-8-bore-pattern-p829526 Screen Shot 2019-05-10 at 22.53.02.png (Size: 196.99 KB / Downloads: 121) Have you tried Power Track Ltd - they stock Lockheed and Girling wheel cylinders for classic cars. Is there a part number on the cylinder ? - if so drop Power Track an email quoting that number and see what they suggest. http://www.powertrackbrakes.co.uk/wcylinder.html RE: Mystery brake cylinder - Ruairidh Dunford - 11-05-2019 (10-05-2019, 09:48 PM)Belinni Wrote: Ruairidh, Lots to choose from, early Jowet?? |
