bowden IFS track rod ends - Bob Tudor - 28-02-2019 Having acquired the appropriate ford track rod ends for the Bowden IFS I have, I now have to resolve the problem of the taper they have. I'm sure I've now got to adapt the steering arms. The previous owner appears to have ground the old ones down to a sort of parallel. I noticed on old threads that some members have had the same problem. Perhaps they would not mind sharing how they went about it? DIY? or machine shop? RE: bowden IFS track rod ends - dickie65 - 01-03-2019 Hi, My old special had double tapered sleeves, Inside to fit Ford Ends / Outside to fit Austin Steering arms. Now that's a challenge for the Lathe. Or the Modern Method using Epoxy. ( Not Araldite but one of the specialist products for building up worn shafts ) One part needs to be clean and abraded the other with release agent on it. RE: bowden IFS track rod ends - Stuart Giles - 01-03-2019 Pretty well all automotive tapers for steering, suspension etc. come out at 1.5" per foot. There are reamers available with this taper, but they are very expensive and usually a lot larger than the sort of size that we would use. I have machined a lot of tapers using home made taper D bits. These are machined with the corrrect taper using a small chunk of Silver Steel which is then hardened and tempered. Once the small diameter has been drilled through, the taper D bit is run through at low speed using a drill press. A photo of one I made earlier should be pretty much self explanatory. |
