RE: Nippy windscreen and surround - Rpm - 17-09-2018 Dave, Thank you so much for your good info really appreciate and yes I may ask for some pics. Just one other thing should you know. Why do so many nippy doors hang terrible, mine pop out at bottom not addressed that problem yet as I’m awaiting delivery of this car some time soon. That’s again Dave. Very good question Rob - I can't give you a definite answer but I have a few thoughts:- I assume they were not like this when new. The back of the door is fixed top and bottom by the hinges, the front of the door is fixed at the top by the door lock so the only part that can distort over the years is the front bottom corner. It can't move too far inwards as it will hit the inner sill so maybe that is why they pop out at the bottom. The door is quite flexible and the curve at the bottom is determined by the curved wooden frame the skin is formed on. I think the wooden frame is made of steam bent ash - it may be possible that over the years the ash looses some of its bend. A small change in the angle of the B post (the post where the hinges are mounted) from the vertical affects the front bottom corner of the door significantly. I have this problem on one of my Nippies which I have been wondering how to fix for some time - if you have any ideas I would be interested to hear of them. It may be worth you posting this interesting question on the Forum Chat section as it seems to get a wider audience:- http://www.austinsevenfriends.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=14 Good luck with the new car. PS if you haven't seen this site it is worth visiting as there is some good information on the Nippy / Type 65:- https://aus7in.wordpress.com/ RE: Nippy windscreen and surround - Rpm - 17-09-2018 Yes that’s almost certainly the reason. I will assess in more depth when I get the car into my garage. Perhaps quick fix initially may be them really strong button magnets the ones you can’t part if you put then together. However, in long term get door off sort the problem correctly. Thanks again Dave very kind and good info. Rob RE: Nippy windscreen and surround - JonE - 17-09-2018 Both - the doors on my old Atlantic Green Nippy had very thin threaded rod running diagonally from top hinge to bottom of opening part. It was secured in both corners and tensioned to give the right amount of tweak. I thought quite a good, light solution - (not mine!) Them doors not hanging right just breaks and spoils that beautiful nippy side on line. Patients and time. will speak with the chaps mentioned Regards Rob RE: Nippy windscreen and surround - squeak - 18-09-2018 As a motor trimmer I can second JonE 's advice. Sometimes the rod/wire wants to take a shortcut which tends to push the doortrim out. The rod may then be fastened back to the horizontal timber frame. Some doors have provision to store sidecurtains in a large cavity and in these cases the diagonal rod/wire may obstruct the pocket opening. cheers Russell RE: Nippy windscreen and surround - Rpm - 18-09-2018 Thanks Russell all very interesting and delighted the doors can be corrected with some ingenuity..
