Engine number ID help please - Simon Anderson - 20-09-2018 Hello All, I am trying to get a year and even a month if possible for the following engine number: M26408 from my research i believe late 1926? thanks Simon RE: Engine number ID help please - Colin Morgan - 20-09-2018 Hi - As can be seen from the numbers in the table at the end of the venerable R J Wyatt's book, in late 1926 the production of Sevens seems to have been over 1000 per month and rising. From looking at the A7CA chassis register, the engine number was typically, but not always, about 200 higher than the chassis number at this time. From Wyatt, chassis 25100 was produced in October 1926 and 26513 in November 1926. Therefore, it would seem likely that engine M26408 would have found its way into a car with a chassis number of just over 26000 in late October or early November 1926? Colin RE: Engine number ID help please - Ian Williams - 20-09-2018 Simon, I have found most crankcases of this period are dated by the foundry, usually on the side below the engine mounting flange RE: Engine number ID help please - Simon Anderson - 21-09-2018 Thank you for the replies, this helps me greatly |
