Girling front brakes / lever angles ?? - flywheel1935 - 01-09-2018 My ARQ Ruby has at some point in its past been fitted with the later Girling front axle + brakes. just trying to sort out if the front brake lever should be vertical with the road or point forwards ? was told that the brake levers and shoe cams are symmetrical , but according to the parts list they are handed, over to the experts, ps my first posting. RE: Girling front brakes / lever angles ?? - Reckless Rat - 01-09-2018 They should point forwards, forming an acute angle with the cables so that when fully applied they ideally don't go beyond 90°. Make sure the cotter pins are in the right way, nuts to the front. The lever balls should face the backplates. My RP has a semi girling front axle & radius arms, but in order to get the brakes to work properly in conjuction with the pre-girling rear end I have since fitted the earlier, shorter levers.
