Steering box nut - Stuart Joseph - 19-04-2018 Good afternoon all. Could anyone advise me of the size of the large nut fitted at the bottom of a steering box, the one to which the fixed stator tube is attached. I need to buy a large socket to remove one. Regards Stuart RE: Steering box nut - Duncan Grimmond - 19-04-2018 In danger of sacrilege I'd say you want a 33mm socket which is not available, a 34 would do it or find a 1 3/8 box spanner. A Whitworth socket may involve getting out your grovelling trousers and approaching your bank manager ;-) RE: Steering box nut - bob46320 - 19-04-2018 I have an 1 1/2" tubular box spanner left over from doing Mini front suspension swivel joints. It would probably do the job, so do you know any mini owners etc RE: Steering box nut - JonE - 19-04-2018 isn't " about 33mm" about the same as 3/4 whitworth which you need for the rear hub nut?? (only know this as I've just had to get a 3/4 whitworth socket for that purpose) i.e. you really need one of those anyway... for proper tightening... Afternoon Stuart 3/4 whit is the size - you may find that you will have to grind the socket wall down a bit thinner as the space around the nut is a bit tight. RE: Steering box nut - Stuart Joseph - 19-04-2018 Many thanks for the prompt replies, 3/4 Whit socket duly ordered. Regards Stuart |
