RE: The start of my van's body build - Jamie - 11-09-2023 Thank you, Stephen. Other than traditional white wood glue, the only specialist wood glue that I have used was Cascamite, years ago on a wooden boat. Your stuff looks a lot simpler to apply. Jamie. RE: The start of my van's body build - Steve Bryant - 11-09-2023 Hi Jamie, I looked at the various types of glue that I could get here in Calgary and the glue that John Heath had suggested I use was almost impossible to get unless I ordered a huge amount. The cost of that was prohibitive. I wanted something that would not crack or be affected by moisture etc., easy to use and didn't break the bank. The small bottle in the pic was about 30 pounds GBP as it was but totally worth it. I wasn't sure initially if it would be any good, but my concerns were unwarranted. Cheers, Stephen RE: The start of my van's body build - Jamie - 12-09-2023 Thank you, Steve. I had not realised that you are in Australia. It seems that Akfix glue is not that readily available over here. When I get to that stage, I shall look for a suitable glue that is on sale here. James. RE: The start of my van's body build - Steve Bryant - 17-09-2023 Went into the workplace shop today and got the back assembly of the body positioned temporarily on the back of the car and fitted the top side rails to the header board on the windshield frame. These were offered up the the rear frame of the van and temporarily taped them to the top corners with duct tape to allow proper positioning of the lower sections where they intersect the rear wing arches. The front board was also fitted to the top rails ahead of the header board. I can see the van shape very easily now which is exciting. My colleague (boss) can't wait to see it completed. Me too. Everything is only screwed together at this point as I need to be able to take things apart if required. Once the rear wing arches are sorted out and installed permanently I can attach the rear frame properly with the thorough bolts into the steel floor cross member. I'll post some pics very shortly. Cheers, Stephen RE: The start of my van's body build - Hugh Barnes - 18-09-2023 I am enjoying this thread, Stephen. Keep up the good work! RE: The start of my van's body build - Jeff Taylor - 18-09-2023 Jamie, Akfix PA370 is available online here in the UK from the 'Fixings Store' Ashford, Kent at £10.99p inc VAT + P&P. https://www.fixingsstore.com/akfix-pa370-marine-wood-adhesive/p/7759 Jeff. RE: The start of my van's body build - Steve Bryant - 19-09-2023 As promised here are three pics showing the present state of things with the vans build. Please disregard the clutter of "stuff" sitting in the van. I remove it all when I work on it but put is back in there for safe keeping rather than put it all on the floor. Cheers, Stephen |
