RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - John Mason - 20-06-2019 It would be good to save the picture and put it beside the finished product. In fairness to her who has to be obayed I can see why she was in a fit of giggles I had to grin a little. John Mason RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Parazine - 21-06-2019 (20-06-2019, 03:31 PM)David.H Wrote: The body number on the scuttle plate is A5 6098, Chassis no also on the Chassis! My 1927 AD has a serial number which is "close" to the chassis number, on the transmission tunnel but doesn't match. Car and chassis have always been together. This is not the car number (A5 something or the other), chassis number or engine number! My 1926 Top Hat has a 4 digit serial number on the tunnel. Maybe as they made more tourer bodies in the early days, the serial numbers were higher? RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - David Stepney - 22-06-2019 Went to Criccieth this morning. Motored via Trawsfynydd and came back via Blaenau Ffestiniog. I am appalled at the standard of driving exhibited by other motorists on times. Leaving Frongoch, on the on the A 4212, there is a good climb up from the village to Llyn Celyn and FG has to take the last half mile or so in third. I was followed up the bank by a large lorry that was so close to my tail that he nearly ran into the back of me when I changed from top to third! I pulled over at the entrance to Llyn Celyn dam and let him past, this being the first opportunity to do so. The other thing that annoys me is when other motorists have to overtake on solid white lines. I am aware that one may cross the solid white line if the vehicle in front is traveling at less than 20 mph. I have no problem being overtaken in such circumstances if FG is toiling up a bank in second at the speed of a weary pony but not at 40-45mph as happened twice this morning, the first time by an Audi A6 and the second time by an Astra VXR. I do wish people would realise that the solid white lines are there for a reason. Anyway. Rant over! I know we all like pictures, so: The first one is yours truly (looking a bit like a yeti) standing by FG in a carpark just below Criccieth Castle. The next two show the Castle in the background. The 4th is taken on the moors just above Llan Ffestiniog and the last is a view of the Aran just before that B4391 joins the A4212 Trawsfynydd to Bala Road. Needless to say, the little car behaved impeccably during its 86 mile jaunt and I am constantly amazed at just how dependable an 86 year old car can be! RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - John Mason - 22-06-2019 Do you feel better now you have had the rant and got it all off your chest David. Can I add great pictures it must be 40 years plus since I was last in that part of Wales.Wonderful. John Mason. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - David Stepney - 22-06-2019 Thank you John, yes. And you must come and visit North Wales again. Its quite as picturesque as anywhere in Europe. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Nick Lettington - 22-06-2019 Church fete. No-one won the car! Guess how many baloons. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - andrew34ruby - 22-06-2019 (22-06-2019, 04:55 PM)David Stepney Wrote: The other thing that annoys me is when other motorists have to overtake on solid white lines. I am aware that one may cross the solid white line if the vehicle in front is traveling at less than 20 mph. Where did you get that idea from David? You can cross the unbroken double lines to overtake a slow vehicle if you want, but only by breaking the law! "Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less." RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - David Stepney - 22-06-2019 Thank you Andrew, I stand corrected. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Ruairidh Dunford - 22-06-2019 David - your tie is totally awesome - I absolutely love the fact that you wear it whilst driving the Seven. Top man! RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - David Stepney - 22-06-2019 Thank you Ruairidh! I had a meeting to go to, so I had to be reasonably presentable. It makes a change from my usual garb of blue overalls over jeans and a woolly. The tie, which was the first one to come to hand, is, in fact my old school tie. The flat cap, however, is always on my head. |
