RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Reckless Rat - 17-01-2025 Afternoon Tiffin in the sun, reading the latest edition of the "Grey Mag"; Thank you Howard! RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Stephencrisp360 - 17-01-2025 Drive is VERY steep, but I have been internet researching, i see some diagrams of a starting handle showing a leather washer and a nut in the end of the tube. Is that a thing on the late Ruby? I have never had one on my '38 and I'm not seeing many actual pictures and there is nothing on the seven workshop site.... I must check the oil level.... But I don't think she is over full .. Steve RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - stuartu - 17-01-2025 If the drive is very steep then that’s fair enough as far as the leak from the nosepiece is concerned. I would not expect a leather washer and nut in the case of your car. Regards, Stuart RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Tony Griffiths - 17-01-2025 What must have been an expensive (bronze?) nut and other parts was used on short-wheelbase coil-engined cars. Am I right in thinking that the system was changed once the long-wheelbase models were introduced, and if so, what oil-leak-stooping system was used on those? Thanks Stuart - wondering if I have to accept that the best way up the drive is forwards being gently towed by the wife in my landy... (I flipping love that film (although that was backwards IIRC)) how about fashioning a little catch can and putting it back in afterwards. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - AustinWood - 17-01-2025 I have never had a problem going up a very steep drive forwards. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Turboseven412 - 18-01-2025 Had a fantastic drive out today, first proper drive in ages. Around the coast, Port Carlisle, Anthorn then Wigton to see a friend and take him for a spin. The car was mostly well behaved....some bumpy roads down Port Carlisle way. At one point I had a car behind me, pulled over to the left and gave him a signal to come pass, as he pulled out to overtake I must have hit a bump or something and old Herbert chose to do the most spectacular swerve to the right. The fella didn't seem so keen on overtaking after that....can't imagine why. Finally got a good charge into the battery after all the silly short journeys Ive been doing - didn't have to hand crank it once! Had a nice chat with an elderly gentlemen who'd learned to drive in a Morris 8, he was just absolutely thrilled by the old car. Brakes were good for the first half of the journey, then the snatching came back, rear right i think - its a recurring problem I've yet to get to the bottom of. Got to test my new LED bulbs on the way back, they're incredibly bright! Much brighter than the 12v bulbs on my van anyway. One of them stopped working on the way back (cause unknown) but one was more than sufficient for driving back on the back roads. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Steve kay - 19-01-2025 attachment=25910]
What I did this morning was marshalling on the Clee Hills Trial. A brief stop en route to the section revealed only one Seven in the car park of the Squirrel at Ludlow, number 58 entered by Rob and M Atkinson. Many Sevenists marshalling and as officials, unusually few Seven entries this year.
