RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Dave Wortley - 01-11-2024 The Lancia is my favourite. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Malcolm Parker - 01-11-2024 I would agree, Dave. The owner of the Lancia has a good taste in cars, owning a Brescia Bugatti and a Salmson (in which he and his son did the full Route 66 some years ago). He uses the Lancia almost as an every day car, it will cruise all day at 55 mph and is very comfortable. What more would you want? He also has a Chummy! RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Duncan Grimmond - 01-11-2024 Ahah, I've met the Salmson in Masham square a few years ago, he didn't mention the Austin or the Bug! RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Steve Jones - 01-11-2024 He wouldn't, Duncan as he's very modest. He's also an exceptional engineer with the ability to come up with a way of fixing, or making, most things. He's had vintage cars since the 1950's and if you saw it, you'd certainly remember the Stanley Steamer he restored and used regularly until he moved it on. I've driven the Salmson and it's a superb thing although not, perhaps, quite as comfortable as the vehicle Mrs. J and I did Route 66 in in September. Steve RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Colin Bromley - 01-11-2024 Today I have continued the Chummy's annual clean, we are on week 2 of this process. The paint was applied 100 years ago as the original owner had it coach painted Indian Red from new. It gets washed, with nothing more than water, then gets 2 coats of the finest quality boiled linseed oil, a week apart, while waiting for this to dry, I have also coated the whole underside with Fluid Film, as it is lanolin based and solvent free, it should not do any harm to the original paint underneath. This laborious process gives enough protection all over that I do not worry too much about using it sparingly during the winter months, it also gives the paint a nice sheen. 51760154078_ea026fa843_w.jpg (Size: 49.69 KB / Downloads: 569) RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Steve kay - 02-11-2024 What has to be done today is eager preparation for tomorrow's Inter Reg Nav rally. Fear not Sevenists, your team will continue to chase the Inter Reg Shield, we are but three points behind Abingdon so all efforts will be made. Across the hills and heaths of Surrey routes will be plotted, possibly across golf courses. Accurate time keeping is vital, so no stops will be made for a quick pizza in Woking, stop sniggering at the back there. Tops of tables are nearly ready, spot heights marked and pencils sharpened. Organiser Philip Bayne Powell has yet to reveal the entry list, although PWA7C competition chief Rob Rhodes may well be taking part. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Charles P - 05-11-2024 A little head machining underway RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - dickie65 - 05-11-2024 Hi Charles, Is that a Ruby head set up for wedging it or is it a straight skimming job. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Charles P - 05-11-2024 (05-11-2024, 06:55 PM)dickie65 Wrote: Hi Charles, Straight skim on a Ruby head with enlarged chambers. Bit of a challenge to wedge a head with this set up! RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Dopey - 07-11-2024 Hi folks. I am posting from sunny New Jersey. I may have mentioned before that I picked up a chassis and engine from Connecticut this Summer. In the process of tearing down the engine to find out if it’s a runner with not too much effort. Look at the attached picks. When I took the head off I see that some of the valves have been replaced with Ford (USA) valves. Anyone heard of this before? Can I use these as replacements? I am super curious. All the best Chris Law. |
