RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Charles P - 24-09-2023 Yesterday I was having a lot of fun at the VSCC Long Course Prescott meeting until the pinion decided to self destruct on the start line. Such is life. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Steve Jones - 24-09-2023 Having watched and heard it happen, I now know what a failing pinion sounds like, Charles. It also makes our discussion about which half shaft to use redundant. Hard luck, mate. Steve RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Duncan Grimmond - 24-09-2023 There's a pretty Bantam on Prewar cars... a bit too restored for my taste but still. https://www.prewarcar.com/493271-1938-american-bantam-roadster A high estimated price but no doubt someone will go for it RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Charles P - 24-09-2023 (24-09-2023, 09:15 AM)Steve Jones Wrote: Having watched and heard it happen, I now know what a failing pinion sounds like, Charles. C RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Hugh Barnes - 25-09-2023 More sliding roof refurbishment progress: The inserted panel has now been overhauled (I was able to re-use what was there) and has been re-covered. It was a job I didn;t really enjoy. The first bit went like a dream, doing the 'first fix' of the vinyl over the entire frame, but sorting the corners and then opening up the panel space was nerve wracking. One tiny slip of the knife and the whole job could have been ruined. As it was, I came close a couple of times. Doing it the next time would be easier, without doubt, given the first experience, but there is no way I intend to do this a second time... and not a very good shot of a 'first fix' in place... RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Chris KC - 25-09-2023 That's looking very smart Hugh - watching with keen interest... RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Howard Wright - 25-09-2023 Hi All Just returned from Pembrey Steam Fair. It is a two day event and the ‘Classic Car Show’ part is organised by my mate Arthur White of the Pontarddulais Classic Car Club. Despite the forecast, Saturday was lovely and surprisingly Sunday was dry but very windy. We drove down in the Special and camped for three nights: First was freezing, second was wet and windy and the third just windy. Only three Sevens on Saturday and just two on Sunday. Some of the scale steamers were superb. Yup the steamers were very well turned out, also Pat and me enjoyed our trip on the narrow gauge steam train. Once again a great week end. And glad you and Liz arrived home safe and sound. S&P RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Reckless Rat - 25-09-2023 Indian summer weather here in deepest Rekkersland so after tiffin I got the RP out of its slumber and took it for a run round the block. It hasn't been out for over a month, but today it was both windows down and screen open all the way. Car ran really well, but I need to do the rear shocks this winter. They're squeaking like crazy. Some confit de canard will provide the tallow necessary. There's a nice climb up from the Cèze valley between Bessèges and St Ambroix that takes me through La Valette and Rochessadoule before cresting the col de Trélis (450m) back to the Auzonnet valley. I was stuck behind a fuel tanker all the way to Le Martinet. I though he was going to be doing a local delivery but he never stopped. It was only a 7.5 tonner, but a biggie shouldn't really attempt the route. There's a 12T limit on it for that reason. Strange having to back off going uphill because the bloke in front is going slower than an A7! RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Dave Mann - 25-09-2023 Just finished making a replacement DFL dynamo brush end shield, this one is bomb proof being 65% heavier that then original. An interesting exercise I won't be repeating. |
