RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Ray White - 04-03-2023 Don't they have 'ole in t' road.? RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Duncan Grimmond - 04-03-2023 I too have a Solex, as should every 2CV owner. I dressed up for the first Tour de France in Yorkshire in 2014... RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Colin Cooke - 04-03-2023 Hi everyone, Work commitments mean I am going to miss a lot of potentially enjoyable events again this year. Never mind - felt like using the 7 yesterday, instead of the modern. 130 miles of intense fun, with no organising or entry fee. I really appreciate all those that contribute to the organised events, and I wish I could support them more, but yesterday proved to me that we have one of the best hobbies. Some more 7 action today, this time, a family outing with the granddaughter in the passenger seat. Have a good weekend, Colin RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Howard Wright - 04-03-2023 Hi All After failing to find the cause of the “clutch knock” I had last week I bit the bullet and removed the engine. Still no wiser but I took the opportunity to instal an engine I built last year as a spare. It has the advantage of having a Phoenix crank amongst other things ![]() It’s taken two days to get it to start! Cold weather doesn’t help but the main culprit was the low tension connection to the coil which showed continuity with the meter but was intermittent when the engine turned over. I only noticed when checking the points spark and saw a spark at the connection! Then I foolishly put on a rebuilt carb that “I thought” I’d set up. Turned out non of the jets had been tightened and the float level was way out. Anyway this morning I’ve got it running and after a couple of minutes I was just about to switch off when a cylinder head core plug blew off…..water everywhere. I think I’ll go back to bed. Cheers Howard ![]() RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Malcolm Parker - 04-03-2023 With the roads dry and salt free (for the moment!) I took the Pytchley out in the watery sunshine to Thirsk for some essential supplies from the supermarket. Parked next to an Austin 7 pal who was out in his 1966 ex Northumberland ambulance. He helped me lift the body onto the Pytchley about 15 years ago and has not seen it on the road until today. With a large capacity sports sump it takes ages to warm up in the cold weather and the temperature was only approaching normal when I had got back home. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - andrew34ruby - 04-03-2023 Took the Ruby for a short drive today and came across Mervyn Hoyle again raising money for charity with his Austin Ten in Harrogate. The top picture is the Ten in the background and my seven in front. Lower picture shows the detail of perfection with his Ten. Every bit of it looks better than new, though maybe not the reflectors in the headlights. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Nick Salmon - 04-03-2023 I really think Mervyn deserves a medal...or something suitable to recocognise his amazing dedication... RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Dave Mann - 05-03-2023 I've got another dynamo on my bench to repair which belongs to a friend. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Tony Griffiths - 05-03-2023 Fitted a turnbuckle adjuster to the NS rear cable - one similar to this. Is anyone else using this method? RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - David Stepney - 05-03-2023 The Seven not having been out for over a week and looking as if it had been trialling, I washed it and then took it over to Llandderfel to visit a friend and then on to feed the horse. When I got back, it looked as if I hadn't bothered bathing it! It's freezing cold up here (the weather forecast has promised snow on Tuesday) so it can wait for another clean until later when the weather is warmer. ![]() ![]() The photos above show the car after my efforts with bucket and sponge, looking as if someone loves it. Note the wash bucket in the background of the first photo. ![]() The route to the horse's field from Llandderfel takes me up a very steep bank leading from the 'Bryn Tirion' pub to the B4391 (1st gear for much of the way). This is view of Pale Hall from part way up, so one can gauge the climb. ![]() Another view of the car on the hill. ![]() Car and a contented pony stuffing his face on coarse mix. Note the condition of the car! Its cold and I am perished, so I am going to get to grips with a bottle of Cabernet Merlot that needs to be drunk to warm me up! ![]() |
