RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 19-07-2019 I have used darts successfully on a number on tonneaus - having been in your car I do think a pocket would suit the higher steering wheel line better. My Ulster has a dart... The Cup a pocket... RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 19-07-2019 Made further progress with the tonneau. I might try to avoid a full pocket and make the drivers side more like a boat cover... I’m due back at the sewing room on Tuesday so hoping to have all my fabric cut and pinned or tacked ready for sewing. I decided to take the Bullnose oil gauge apart to find the Hairspring tangled and some bent bits inside. Scrapped the hair spring , not sure what it’s function is? Straightened the other minor bits and am confident it will work now!!! Also installed the speedo head which involved dismantling it to limbo it into the dash! In between times had a short drive in our lane. It’s quite nippy!!! But petrol system needs minor attention Cockpit now pretty complete apart from carpets. In between times , sorted a brush for one neighbour, moved a scarecrow( a monk) And fixed another neighbours toilet. Just a normal day really in retirement land. As it is normal for your eyeballs to flutter in an Austin 7 you probably won't notice! Pleased with my efforts on the tonneau with help from a local Seamstress who sewed up the parts I’d cut and hand tacked. I’ve used stainless steel rods to make a hoop under the middle of the cockpit , Plugged into the sidescreen sockets to maintain the tension on the tonneau cover Took the car for its first proper run today and clocked up 15 miles!! First a trip to St Abbs Harbour and a spin over to Eyemouth to fill up with a couple of gallons. Pulls well in all gears and on a straight smooth road I’m sure it will do 55-60 mph once it’s run in Adjusted the rear brakes on my return and retested. Now Stops in a straight line on both hand and foot brake. Both steering gear and gearbox working well. Engine ticks over quietly , starts easily on the bacon slicer or the handle, hot or cold. Never needed to adjust the distributor so far, but had to make a new petrol pipe which coiled horizontally, as I was getting airlocks in my first attempt Still to re-tighten the cylinder head studs. Picking up the trailer Friday morning and will head off to Guildtown about 12.30. Thanks to Ruairidh, Neil and Jim for all their help in getting this car rally ready! Regards Bill G RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 24-07-2019 Well done Bill! See you there. RE: All Alloy Cup progress - David Stepney - 24-07-2019 Well done Bill! The car looks absolutely splendid! You must be very proud of your work. RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 24-07-2019 Hi folks just pleased that is 95% finished!! A couple of electrical issues still to resolve and then perhaps a little tuning... Regards Bill G RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Howard Wright - 24-07-2019 Hi Bill We'll be arriving early afternoon and I'm really looking forward to seeing the car (and meeting you!) Shame judging by the forecast you may need a hood rather than a tonneau! Cheers Howard RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 24-07-2019 Hi Howard I have made a hood frame , but no time to make a hood, But hope to take photos of other Cup hood in the rain. That’s forecast! Will be nice to meet some of the folk who have followed this build over the last couple of years( 47,000 views and counting!) Wellies ? must remember to pack those. Regards Bill G RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Tony Betts - 24-07-2019 Hi bill, Good to see you are about there. Will you be on the road run. And Don't worry about the hood. I'm sure you will feel better when you see what's left of the hood on my car Tony. |
