RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Graham Barker - 05-05-2022 Hi Denis, I also had the screws that hold the carburetor bowl come loose. I don't think there is a risk of losing the bowl completely. The engine seems to stop before the screws are completely undone - thank goodness. I now have spring washers under the screw heads. Regards Graham. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Tony Griffiths - 05-05-2022 (02-05-2022, 04:36 PM)Duncan Grimmond Wrote: OK, who was it? I was grubbing dandelions in the side entrance when I heard a poop, poop, looked out down the village street to see a black Seven going poop, poop every hundred yards or so... I only caught the HS**** of the number plate. I waved but no response. Was Toad about? `Glorious, stirring sight!' murmured Toad, never offering to move. `The poetry of motion! The REAL way to travel! The ONLY way to travel! Here to-day--in next week to-morrow! Villages skipped, towns and cities jumped--always somebody else's horizon! O bliss! O poop-poop! O my! O my!' Under stress, pick up this book and you'll be calm within seconds.... RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Denis Sweeney - 05-05-2022 Graham, I too have spring washers on those screws now…….. courtesy of earlier advice from brother Pete. Thanks for the tip tho’ much appreciated Actually when I did stop to sort my little hiccups, it was really nice that a local village garage owner came to check on us whilst sorting the petrol leak. Then at the second stop to sort the condenser, an owner of a passing half timbered moggie, followed by an owner an early Triumph 1300 stopped to see if we needed assistance and after they left one of the locals came out from his garage to see if we needed help. Restores one’s faith in human nature RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Steve kay - 05-05-2022 Today a gentle trial erection, offering up strategic elements of the magneto engine. Everything finger tight as it will all come out before the final assembly. Something of a lesson for those of is who think that wiggling a Ruby engine in is a bit of a challenge, next time I put an engine in the Ruby it will feel like 2CV engine installation. Not a single dynamo or dynamo housing currently upstairs in the stores is magneto suitable. Anybody have one for sale, or will I be ringing round tomorrow? Still haven't found out how to make the little snaps return to portrait format.
RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - David Stepney - 06-05-2022 Toady, I took the Seven to Dolgellau to collect my new glasses. went there up the A494 and decided to come back though the lanes to Llanfachreth and rejoin the main road at Rhydymain. All was well until I got to the main road at Rhydymain where I got a puncture! And then the jack broke!! The saddle came loose as I was jacking the car up and the hut was simply turning the screw thread round. Fortunately, I had a pipe wrench in the cars toolkit (a useful bit of kit, that) and by gripping the thread. I was able to eventually jack the car up sufficiently to change the wheel. And all the time, the traffic, mercifully light, was whizzing past at 60 mph. Got home and found that the valve had come away from the tube, so a new tube was fitted. I suppose I can't complain too much, though. The tube was the last of the Dunlop ones, so must have been about 50 years old. I have also fixed the jack by welding the saddle to the end of the screw thread. All in all, not my most successful trip out, but al least the problems were an easy fix. Other than that, the car went well. At Llanfachreth On the road to Rhydymain Spring is coming! I was intrigued in Devon. Except for a few dead ends few narrow roads here now. Trucks have got much bigger and many roads have to accept artic and trailer milk tankers. No 300 year old walls or bridges to hamper realignment. Big changes in recent times (ie since 1960s!) RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Jeff Taylor - 06-05-2022 Bob, The lanes and lovely cottages featured in David's photos are in North West Wales - my mother was of Welsh decent. RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - Howard Wright - 08-05-2022 Hi All The car spent yesterday being pulled in and out of my new bus as a trial to see if it fitted! I didn’t even start it so today to give both it and me some exercise I drove out of Llandrindod to the forestry near Doldowlod. Changing the driving shoes for boots I climbed up Dol-y-Fan overlooking the Wye valley. Spectacular drive, walk and views all in brilliant sunshine. Cheers Howard ![]() ![]() RE: What have you done today with your Austin Seven - JonE - 08-05-2022 and no pictures of the bus, Howard?! Far more interesting than green stuff. Good to see you carry your box with the nuclear key with you, whatever the trip. Ready for anything. |
