RE: All Alloy Cup progress - David Stepney - 02-06-2019 The radiator shell looks fantastic. I can't wait to see the finished car! RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Mike Costigan - 03-06-2019 No stopping you now, Bill! RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Charles Levien - 03-06-2019 (02-06-2019, 05:38 PM)JonE Wrote: fabulous! What is the thang about having the plates at an angle? Were they like that in contemporary photos? Streamlined number plate — good for another .001 mph? RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Chris KC - 03-06-2019 You won't need headlights with a rad shell that shiny! RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 03-06-2019 Hi Chris I think I’ll like going out in the dark as I am in Love with the dinky side lights, showing a nice ruby red to the driver as well as The Cars which will be overtaking this nearly 95 year old chassis. Planning to fit LED dipping headlamp bulbs, though I’m not sure they look too good Through the clear lamp glass of the NOS CAV headlamps. We’ll see. The LED sidelamps, tail lights and flashers are all nice and bright so other drivers should be aware of the car on the road OK, even in the dark. I need to make some wedges to align the headlamps as the adjustment on the stalks isn’t sufficient, plus I need to make a second, lower cross strap at the base of the shell, as per advice from Ruairidh and photos of the Fred Dash Car. I’ll need to take great care that I don’t over stress the shell in case I crack the plating!!! Finished last weeks garden landscaping project so back to the garage today. Thanks to all for the encouragement I may need it. A former Cup owner has not been very complimentary about how they drive, but time will tell. Regards Bill G RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 03-06-2019 I 3E9455F8-DFB2-4F00-A278-4691A01405AC.jpeg (Size: 98.28 KB / Downloads: 237) ABDDCE4D-3053-42E3-BA5E-E0CEBF2D8E50.jpeg (Size: 104.04 KB / Downloads: 237) Spent an afternoon adjusting the shell fixtures and fitting the top, Austin badge and the support brackets. Several of the holes in the shell were closed up slightly due to the extra copper and nickel so had to be carefully filed to make clearance for the fasteners. I refitted the original aluminium Austin lettering and also the stamped nickel radiator badge. Surprisingly I only discovered today that the headlamp mounting holes Weren’t level! These photos were taken before I adjusted the holes!! So had to level these mounting holes by adding 1/4” Up to one and 1/4” down to the other. There’s pressed brass shrouds which Will easily cover this adjustment and the headlamp stalks. The stalks themselves will need wedges to make the lamps point forward and I’ve cut these from a heavy steel tube Neil kindly bored out for me on his lathe. Won’t be long till the radiator is on the car!! Hope to get the exhaust fabrication finished tomorrow too. Regards Bill G Aka AllAlloyCup RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Mike Costigan - 04-06-2019 Bill, just a little thing, but please adjust your Austin script! The 'A' needs twisting perhaps 20° clockwise so that the bar of the 'A' is parallel to the bar of the 't' ... RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 04-06-2019 Here you are Bill... RE: All Alloy Cup progress - AllAlloyCup - 04-06-2019 Hi Mike I had already twisted it after I had taken this photo and before your email! This badge is quite fragile at that point so won’t want to bend it too often! Thanks Ruairidh for the nice coloured card not seen that image before. Regards Bill G Ps Neil helped me finish off the downpipe this morning. RE: All Alloy Cup progress - Chris Garner - 04-06-2019 |
