As has been said here a few times, I have used Aldi £9:99 trickle charger on full time and battery is now 8 years old and going strong.

I had a similar problem and found that there was a problem with one of the field coils. I replaced it and now the battery turns over the engine easily.

Well I'll be blowed, had all my batteries checked, and was the blooming starter motor after all.
off to unit exchange.
