Erich, your throttle return spring looks to me like a clutch pedal return spring, nothing like as strong as the correct throttle shaft spring.

Ruairidh, the spring I have will get me through. Here the PNW, there are a dearth of Austin Seven parts and suppliers, so I'm trying to assemble a supply of spares.

Malcolm, the spring I have is like the one with the kink in the photo with the two. Definitely not the later Ruby type.
