RE: Ignition System Issue ??? - Zetomagneto - 03-09-2019 Don’t run it if you can’t drive it.Whats the point of ruining a new engine RE: Ignition System Issue ??? - flywheel1935 - 03-09-2019 As per my OP, I just needed to check how to wire the coil to give the engine a quick run. not the merits of running a new motor without load etc etc. Simples questions only require simples answers, not mass debates !!!! RE: Ignition System Issue ??? - Ruairidh Dunford - 04-09-2019 Run a live feed from a 6v battery to the SW or + site of the coil. Run an earth from the battery to any point on the crankcase that is not painted. I use crocodile clips. I routinely run up new engines briefly on a simple test best I have, see below: RE: Ignition System Issue ??? - Colin Wilks - 04-09-2019 The bit of wiring you seem confused about is the earth (Negative/CB) side of the coil. This connects to the low tension terminal on the side of the distributor and connects to earth via the distributor body whenever the contact breakers are closed. The internal earth connection within these old distributors has been known to fail, so if you have no spark at the plugs it may be worth proving the earth circuit between the downstream contact breaker terminal and the engine block. Making a permanent earth connection to the negative terminal on the coil and leaving it powered up would probably account for the heat you desribed in an earlier post. RE: Ignition System Issue ??? - flywheel1935 - 05-09-2019 Thanks, thats all I needed to know. |
