RE: AllAlloyCup progress - jansens - 10-02-2019 I think in my quick measurements there was only about 1 inch of up/down on the end of the end of the throttle bar. I figured the only way to get it exactly right was make up some temporary attachment to the carb spindle to see how to translate the full to floor throttle pedal movement into the nearly 90 degree carb spindle rotation needed to be wide open. My thinking was match WOT with pedal to the floor then the pedal up position will limit itself to the butterfly closed position if you get what I mean? Simon RE: AllAlloyCup progress - AllAlloyCup - 11-02-2019 This an original from GE Register site before and after Dremeling. An original door slam catch and handle again from GE Register website Caught a small dose of man flu so no garage today! However I’m allowed Dremeling in the house so started to fettle the original pattern door catch castings which came courtesy of Ruairidh. 40 mins removed most of the sand casting scale and a Fine abrasive cylinder tool on the Dremel made them look like the will do job once drilled, filed, polished and plated. So a few hours on these bits over the next week Regards Bill G RE: AllAlloyCup progress - AllAlloyCup - 14-02-2019 Still coughing and sneezing but at least I’m moving about, soon to get rid of this head cold. Ruairidh provided some spare door catch castings That he had a week or two ago, so decided today to Clean up the castings , using a Dremel and some Bands of fine emery cloth. Managed to clean up One catch today. One to do. Also looked out some steel bar and rod to make the sliding bolt, these still to be drilled and the bolt milled back to 8mm. Next thing to do, mark up for apertures and countersunk screws holes. Looks like I’ll have some careful drilling and filing to do to knit all these components together and then fit to the pre hung doors already on the body frame. Finally will need to fire up my nickel home plating kit to do these parts and a few other small bits. One of the last fiddly jobs I hope! Hope to get the rad shell back from the platers at Longtown in about a fortnight. Bill G Aka AllAlloyCup RE: AllAlloyCup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 14-02-2019 Are you or Neil going to use these Bill? RE: AllAlloyCup progress - AllAlloyCup - 14-02-2019 Hi Ruairidh, I’m using these particular parts and helping Neil with the plating of his door catches And other parts, Neil is a skilled model engineer and will make the brass door bits to suit his own car. Having a pal who’s building the same type of car, from Scratch! Who lives 40 mins away has been a big bonus to both of us, especially the bodywork as two brains are better than one! You too had the bonus of the advice of your Dad and Tom which you must have appreciated at key points with your very impressive build. Looking forward to Guildtown, must put my entry in And secure the date in the family calendar. All the best Bill G RE: AllAlloyCup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 14-02-2019 I understand - you confused me because you initially said you had some catches which is why I offered them to Neil instead, so long as they are being put to good use I am delighted. I think the photos from my Wordpress site are in fact of very good repro. catches, not originals, I will check and let you know. RE: AllAlloyCup progress - AllAlloyCup - 14-02-2019 Hi Ruairidh Sorry for the confusion I had some rather rudimentary home made catches but they weren’t working out so pleased to have these casting that you’d sourced. Did you have them cast locally or just picked them up a while ago? Neil was wondering where they’d come from. Is your car due back soon? Regards Bill G RE: AllAlloyCup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 14-02-2019 They are part of "many-bits-I-have picked-up-over-the-years". Glad they are of use. Car will be back here in March - fingers crossed. Used some 10mm square bar to make the bolts and 4mm rod As the guide, plus some springs from some cheap catches. Some precision drilling and filing needed! Still to make some square holes in the striker plates before fitting on the car, plus a little more polishing before doing some home brewed nickel plating. Regards Bill G Aka AllAlloyCup RE: AllAlloyCup progress - Ruairidh Dunford - 21-02-2019 Nice work Bill! |
