I am using the same style of bulb purchased from ClassicCarLEDs as Colin Bromley mentions above, on my motorbikes and am thoroughly impressed, especially given that the dynamo on my BSA can keep up with it, despite putting out a measly 18w @ 6v (and that was when it was new!)

I have these (or ones of the same design) on our Ruby and they do work well. At the time I fitted them they were the best choice available, but I have the "Bulls Eye" type on all other cars. These are the ones on the Ruby: https://www.lathes.co.uk/austin7-2/img311.jpg

Thanks for that Tony. Bulbs suggested earlier are almost £80 a pair when VAT and delivery are included. I've found the bulbs you mention here for about £40 all in. Mind, I've found others for around £15 all in for 2 bulbs.
I can pay £80 if it's needed, but £40 sounds better. It's tempting to buy a pair at £15 just to see what they are like!

At £15 you might want a second pair in case the first give up after a couple of hours.....
Looking at prices on Chinese "wholesale" sites, bulbs for modern cars bulbs are available in bulk at a very low unit price. I've not managed to track down any that would be any use to us however.

I did try some like Tony's, they gave loads of light and took very little current but after only a couple of months they both failed at the same time leaving me in total darkness until I switched to side lights, on RN saloons the side lights go out when the headlights are on. I returned them to the supplier who replaced them FOC but I'd lost my faith in them and I stuck with the 24 watt quartz halogen ones until I tried the bulls eye ones which I see have now been in use for 2 years. You takes your choice.
