RE: What wheels are these? - Upperfield - 06-06-2024

Now that I know what they are, what are they worth and does anyone with a Military A7 want to buy them?

I have no intention of ripping a fellow A7 enthusiast off but postage will be a little expensive given the weight.

Thanks

Hugh

The West London wheels with inset rather than offset were designed to go on the front in order not to over stress the King pins.

And the West London centres don't go onto late the A7 hubs and drums - those without the pegs. The late hubs are slightly bigger diameter, with a bigger centre hole through the drum. You do have to knock the pegs out of earlier drums to fit them.

I would challenge that statement. Its is true the the very last pegless drums have a larger centre hole so wont locate properly on the earlier hubs. However of you have the correct hub it simply has a small register for the drum to locate on. This larger diameter does not extend more than a 16th'' beyond the drum face and my west London wheels fit perfectly well.

Well, they didn't on mine! I ended up with a 1/8'' spacer plate to clear the shoulder. Sounds like some may fit and some not; caveat emptor!

Addition; Looking at the same axle on my '38 Opal while doing the brakes this morning I can see that the fronts have virtually no protruding shoulder but it does protrude about 1/8'' outside of the drums on the rear hubs.
