It’s something I’ve noticed, when using the Seven every day, for whatever reason, you get used to it and don’t even think of using the modern…great to see it being used!

AS some of you may have noticed, my Seven gets quite a lot of mundane use. In fact so much so that I don't often report it these days. To be fair, the last couple of weeks, it hasn't been out that much, but this is due to the fact that timber contractors have been clear felling part of the forest adjacent to my home and the lorries, harvesters and forwarders have made a muddy mess of the track. Leon did use it the other day, however, to go to the horses, as the Landrover was waiting for its new radiator to arrive.

In the 60s, when I was a student at Dundee, I towed my friend Wynne's 1938 Hillman Minx up to a garage in the Hilltown. That's car weighting 750kg up a hill 1 in 7 in parts. It made my Ruby struggle and boil vigorously but we got there. 1st gear, full throttle most of the way.

Its a rare day when my RP doesn't leave the garage. However I never seem to think of taking photos in interesting places. Unfortunately if our Hybrid modern suffers a power outage I don't think the Austin will be much use getting it going.

Lovely to hear I'm not the only one. Does anyone on the forum have a Seven as their only car I wonder?

There are no other Sevens in daily use around here but I do see a rather lovely 1930s open-top Daimler from time to time.

Hi Peter

I believe Roger Mallinson runs a two seater as his only car.  Google Roger Mallinson to read his amazing story and later life obsession with Windermere steamers!

Cheers

Our 1929 fabric saloon is the car I use every day. Here in The Scottish Borders it's ideal. I've noticed that the tires are nearly down to the limit. About 16,000 miles I think.
I did have a 1992 Citroen Xantia but at 195,000 miles, no synchromesh on 3rd gear and the clutch starting to slip, I decided it wasn't worth trying to weld the rust together and gave it up 3 years ago. I have not replaced it.
My son and I do also have a 1972 Citroen which we use for longer runs, such as meetings down in England. We've clocked up 17,000 miles in that since reassembling it from boxes in which it had been for 12 years. It is not used if there's any change of salt. 70s citroens are soluble in salt water.

80s Citroens are pretty soluble as well. My 2CV is just about to go to super specialist Pierre Sparreaux for another major shell rebuild. An increasing problem is the shortage of reliable paint shops who are interested in anything other than a two pack insurance job. Maybe it is approaching the time for moderns to also have brush painted Craftmaster paint jobs.

Steve, I’m rebuilding a 2cv for a friend after doing one nearly thirty years ago, I painted the chassis and the shell using two pack epoxy primer and two pack too coat leaving the gun finish, no flatting and polishing…it’s still used every day and rust free.

Just got to throw some new barrels and pistons on it, as it’s slower than my box saloon at the moment!
