I think the clue is in the brass tubes. Were the originals not steel?

Yes but the static tube is quoted as 'Part BM136 has OD of .561 and ID of .360' - not much larger than the bore of the inner tube size shown.

I spent many a long hour with emery tape to get a replacement static steel tube to fit nicely inside the steering column tube on the Sports Car  Big Grin

Cheers, Tony.

Any idea's

Olly

If any of my parts don't fit, it would be really helpful if I was told about it direct instead of happening to come across it on the forum! Then I might be able to do something about it. I usually supply all the three tubes together, which do all fit together nicely. This is the first hint that I've had that there might be a problem with them. I think the 9/16" outer tube I am getting is thinner than the original, and the 1/2" tube is thicker. I will see if I can get some tubes which are more like the original ones.

David

David,

I hasten to add my static tube was a local Australian supply, not from you.

Tony.

Firstly may I say apologies for any upset I have caused.i have only ever had excellent advise, help and parts from David and I hope this has not been taken the wrong way.

When I tried to fit the tubes I was confused and thought it an interesting deviation from the norm. I was thinking and still am that it is an anomaly with my set up - I was hoping it may be a bush or something that had been added.

I am not about today but will call you (David).
Apologise again

Olly

No upset caused, so no apologies needed! Just a minor whinge on my part. And of course, today I completely forgot to check my new tubes against the set of original ones - bother. Tomorrow I should be mostly away working on the RP again, but I will try to get round to looking at them.

Having got tube red hot / bored end to 12.4mm and smack with ‘intent’ there is a witness of old inner tube (solder appears to have run down between tubes) I have finally admitted defeat. I think a trip to see David for an outer tube is called for !!
Will add pictures shortly

Your original comment- " the outer original tube with car and has thrust bush on end Part BM136 has OD of .561 and ID of .360" should have been a clue to this !

Cheers, Tony.
