RE: Main gears - Peter Naulls - 13-04-2023 Check the mesh of the dynamo gear too. This can make horrible noises if too slack. RE: Main gears - Reckless Rat - 13-04-2023 Before you do any more stripping and/or investigation, perhaps it might be a good idea to let someone with good A7 knowledge see and hear the car. RE: Main gears - Ivor Hawkins - 13-04-2023 I concur with Bruce, someone with A7 knowledge should listen to your motor...I have an engineer’s stethoscope (motor mechanics used to use a long screwdriver) and it really does isolate where the noise is coming from and it may well be something very easily rectified without having to whip the motor out. RE: Main gears - Hugh Barnes - 13-04-2023 Tiger - are you a member of your local Austin 7 Club? If not, I would recommend it as your first action... I see the Pre War A7 Club have a Staffordshite/Shropshire group... https://a7ca.org/member-clubs/club-meetings-map/ RE: Main gears - Nick Turley - 13-04-2023 I agree with Hugh. Your best way forward is to join a club you will find experienced help near you. It's a no brainer. Mistakes can be expensive and frustrating. |
