RE: It was fifty years ago today.... - Tony Griffiths - 26-08-2022 Thanks, Les, they are not mine but taken by the "official photographer", I just happened to have a set. I believe that the Archive has collected more that will appear in due course. I spotted the picture with the baby-in-arms - and commented to my wife that the child is now 50 years old. Sobering! RE: It was fifty years ago today.... - Ivor Hawkins - 26-08-2022 What a fantastic set of scans and pictures. I missed the chance of going as my only form of transport was my Super Accessories Super Sportsman and I had no lights as the entire car was wired with pink cable...every wire was pink and I had no idea where to look! I'm (sort of) in this picture! (50 in January). RE: It was fifty years ago today.... - Ruairidh Dunford - 27-08-2022 I am not in this picture, but like you, Austin, I was there too. RE: It was fifty years ago today.... - Mike Costigan - 27-08-2022 In 1972 there were four B Coupes present, at the Centenary not one: Peter Blackburn's example in the Exhibition Hall W D Evan's example Tony Russell's car and mine RE: It was fifty years ago today.... - Ivor Hawkins - 27-08-2022 It would appear B coupe owners would rather keep the cars locked up in a garage than drive them... I drove the Seven to Aynho today to ring the bells at a wedding and I came out of the church to find the old box saloon starring alongside the bride and groom and the white Silver Cloud wedding car...I should have taken a B coupe owners lead and polished it! RE: It was fifty years ago today.... - leaf200 - 27-08-2022 My RType saloon was there if anyone has any pictures. RE: It was fifty years ago today.... - Bob Kneale - 28-08-2022 It was my first Austin Seven Rally I attended with the Ruby. The only image I can find was taken at Cofton park campsite after a maiden run post MOT from Cirencester. Such was my confidence in the car, after 17 miles I decided to drive the rest of the journey up the M5 to the rally. Image shows the Ruby (364) with Ray Moses' '29 Swallow (87), his wife Barbara's ARR Ruby (385) and Tony Reeves' RN Saloon (182). It's a pity they didn't include registration numbers on the Jubilee programme, as it would have made locating the cars on the Rally 'field' easier. I know my ARR is close to the B/W image of Mk 2 Rubies but HOW close? 450 entrants were on the 1972 programme. How many made in the for the event, I wonder. I never thought that the subsequent Centenary celebration could ever have surpassed that of 1972. It became a very complex affair in terms of organisation, seamlessly executed, and I haven't heard of anyone who didn't enjoy it. There was lots of something for everyone! |
