Very useful.
The Magneto Guys site tells me a capacitor model, make, capacitance range and how to fit one. Very handy. Useful that I have another incomplete spare ML magneto to examine before burrowing into the one under suspicion.

Time to order a few capacitors then

Yes, Charles.
They're surprisingly (at least to me) informative about their techniques which must've taken lots of time and effort to develop into a replicable and permanent repair method.
Generally, specialised repair outfits (in my experience) are very secretive about their proprietary stuff  Intellectual Property (IP)

Here you go Charles,
Original failed condenser fitted with a Rifa condenser potted in. Second damaged original condenser with a Rifa fitted and nylon top.
Brightspark condenser fitted beside the coil in readiness for original condenser failure.

Thanks Robert.
Capacitors arriving tomorrow and the current (modern replacement) one is out and I'm ready to solder and repot in epoxy. Will report back later

I agree with this, they are incredibly helpful and their prices very reasonable indeed.

Well, The Magneto Guys are in some ways the successors to the late Tony Holder who tended to my magnetos for almost 20 years, after a recommendation from Mac Bonnar on these very pages. Therefore I feel warmly to them, even though I've never used their services (yet!).
When my mag failed once at Loton Park I called Tony to ask for help and he said "Send it to me tomorrow. You're competing so I'll get it turned around in a week". And he did, which probably didn't help the backlog of other customer's mags.

Update.
Bought some 0.15uf PME 271 capacitors from RS. Potted one into an old condenser case with epoxy, along the lines of Robert Foreman. Fitted and reinstalled the mag and it appears to work a treat.
Thanks to all for the advice and pointers

Charles
