RE: Gas lever - Mark R - 26-07-2021 My understanding was that the 3 speed clutch release setup was such that the spring keeps the pressure on the release bearing rather than the 4 speed, which, by a spring inside the clutch area keeps it pulled off. RE: Gas lever - Howard Wright - 26-07-2021 Hi Mark Ooops you are correct! As Terrytuned has reminded me by email. I got muddled as I have a 4 speed release bearing on my special and this requires a spring in the clutch mechanism to hold the bearing off the levers. Sorry Gordon if I’ve give you the wrong info. Cheers Howard RE: Gas lever - Gordon Critcher - 26-07-2021 Thanks Howard, At this time I believe that the clutch is tip top, but that could prove to be wrong. I was hoping it was an out side job even if it is difficult. Now I will try to locate one. Thank Howard. Just read replies backwards, being new to the Forum! So I have a 4 speed box fitted rebuilt in Melbourne by a specialist. So is the spring on the outside of the bell housing/gearbox or on the inside? Thanks to all members replying. RE: Gas lever - Tony Press - 27-07-2021 Gordon, On the earlier Three Speed gearbox the clutch lever spring is outside but on a properly set up Four Speed the spring is inside the housing on the gearbox nose holding the bearing away from the fingers/ This article from the Cornwall Club website shows the nose with spring: Clutch Pedal Adjustment (austin7.org) Tony. RE: Gas lever - Howard Wright - 27-07-2021 Hi Gordon Tony’s post gives the right info and the Cornwall link is spot on! Cheers Howard |
