RE: Bonnet alignment - AustinWood - 13-05-2021 The bonnet on our fabric saloon was like that. In the summer we took the body off, and did a general tidy up. The chassis had sagged and also some fatigue cracks around the rear engine mounts. RE: Bonnet alignment - Ruairidh Dunford - 13-05-2021 I think most cars that have been in service for many years suffer the same. The chassis rails are durable stuff and straightening them is not so easy as I imagined! RE: Bonnet alignment - squeak - 14-05-2021 Are these cracks able to be successfully welded as I have noticed some after taking the engine out to do a valve job. I imagine now the body will have to come off as well. Any special welding proceedures? RE: Bonnet alignment - Tiger - 14-05-2021 Do the Rubies suffer from the same affliction? RE: Bonnet alignment - Ruairidh Dunford - 14-05-2021 The quality of the steel used is superb to weld. Rubies don’t appear to suffer the same fate, instead, the scuttle drop and body mount crush mentioned in the second post. RE: Bonnet alignment - Howard Wright - 14-05-2021 Hi As Ruairidh says the chassis welds well. I used a standard stick welder. Best to straighten the chassis rail before welding (don’t ask me how I know that ) Cheers Howard |
