Many cars sport replacement fuel pumps and these have been tinkered with over the decades,. Different rate springs exist to cover amongst other factors, cars run with crankacse depresion. The packing of the pump gasket, and correct arm also affect pressure.
With the 26VA the bowl must closely fit the lid or air additonal to that via the screw leaks in. Old carbs are often bubbly; can be carefully smoothed with a fine file.
