RE: Hartford rear dampers - Tony Betts - 11-02-2021

i think 502 is correct.

but when i spoke to him at beaulieu he recond they were not out in 1923. but thats what ive seen on sevens. he suggested 101 was correct for 1923 which i bought from him 4 years ago. in antisipation of an early build.

in many ways i rather the 101 on my build because i didnt want to put RED, WHITE, and GREEN. all on the same car?.

call me stoopid, but it just dont look right on this age of car.

tony.

When I overhauled my Hartfords about 45 years ago I didn't find any paint left on the discs, so that's no help! Graham's website says 502 discs were fitted to post 1935 3 1/2" Hartford shock absorbers, so I suppose the 101 type must be correct.

Never having seen the Hartford Austin 7 dampers in detail before I am suprised at how complicated they are compared to the later Austin 7 factory design.

The rear set would presumably be no more effective still having only two friction discs.
