RE: shellac for wiring in dynamo - Chris KC - 18-10-2020 Both my car and my hi-fi are indeed hand-wound Howard! I would be most interested if anyone can tell me how to re-point 'single use' steel needles - sorry for the diversion Jon - as far as I know the devices for re-pointing are only for hardwood needles, which I do not have. I've kept a good many used steel needles against the day I find out how to do it. I'm fearful of experimenting, once gouged the records will never recover. Works perfectly, we have used it for years where insulation is scuffed but not bad enough to rewind. JB Weld conducts electricity & would be worse than useless. RE: shellac for wiring in dynamo - JonE - 07-11-2020 My shellac repairs, cleaning all the iron surfaces of rust, and a new brush resulted in a working dynamo. Interesting that my anxieties over the ignition light deciding not to function were entirely due to something within the duff dynamo and its connections. I wonder exactly WHAT it was, as it firstly worked (i.e. signifying dynamo not working) but then went out and stayed out, even when car not running. This was before finding that the D and F were wrongly wired inside... so I wonder if initially running it for a while resulted in surfaces cleaning themselves and it being able to short? |
