I am old enough to remember watching staved barrels being rolled down. A rope was used to slow and control. When I was house hunting 45 years ago I was always very nervous opening underhouse doors for inspection. Often some giant dog lurked behind. RE: "Welcome Waits the Austin family" 1929.
