Just a quick update about the sender unit I bought. In simple terms it's no good at all for an Austin 7. The mounting plate is too big a diameter (by a long way) and the resistances are also wrong.
Even though I gave the supplier the information about all this (as provided kindly on here) and being recommended this unit, it can't / won't fit. When I queried this with the supplier, they simply said, "It would never work for a car like that - it's only a Ford part."
If anyone knows someone needing a 6 volt sender unit suitable for a Ford (don't know the model), please let me know. I've got one going spare now!
