Well done! And don't feel silly. It was sensible to ask. We have all damaged components by being 'ham-fisted' when a bit of thought or advice would have yielded a more satisfactory result.

If only all owners through the ages had been reluctant to give parts a good whack many restorations could have been much simplified! Whacking chisels between the hub halves seemed to have been especially habitual. And all cotters.
