You say your father "nursed" that engine David, does that mean pottering about at about 30 mph in top gear right in the engine's natural vibration speed?

Could be right there Dave. He taught me to drive in it and I passed the driving test in it. I never drove very fast in it, mainly because it was well and truly knackered.
