I think Herbert's dislike of Englebach was largely because he was appointed by the Administrators without Herbert's prior approval.

Englebach is presumably a German name. Huge anti German sentiment in the 1920s, and Austin lost his son in WW1. May have coloured his attitude.

Yes. Born in London in 1877, he originally came from high German stock.
