A surprising degree of cam rotation is absorbed by the clearance. Large radius followers reduce the angle; the common 3/4 reducing  about 1 cam  deg each side so adding about 2 deg cam duration according my basic textbook. Most run genrous clearances which more than offset.
For any  curious the opening acceleration is proportional to the sum of the base circle and follower radii, so becomes theoretically infinite with a flat follower, with theoretical impact to match if all was rigid. Most wear is usually on the cam peak nevertheless.
