Just for completeness I'll point out that later cars (Rubies) had a different pattern where the outer, fixed part is cast aluminium or mazak - with a gutter section to it. I'm not sure when the change over took place but I suspect sometime during Mk1 Ruby production.

I couldn't help homing in to this thread as my 1930 Swallow has a smoker's hatch. It may be of interest that the one on my car has no glass in it. The lid is just painted steel.

That's very useful.
I assume that at 10 1/4" by 8 1/2" overall, it's rather bigger that an A7 unit (?).
