RE: Bore honing - Bob Culver - 01-06-2018 In the days when reboring was very common, rigid hones with coarse stones were sometimes used for the total rebore. My father knew a mechanic who used to do home rebores that way (using employers eqpt!) He used to tell the story of stopping for a cuppa then returning and doing a cylinder a second time! Incidentally, because of the detritus, ring makers ACL and DANA are both so wary of any honing in situ that they recommend better to omit. With care and time and regular checking of dimensiosn a careful amateur can do things with the cheaply available spring hones but devour stones. RE: Bore honing - Colin Reed - 01-06-2018 HI BOB, What you are talking about is reringing not a total rebore . this is only possible if there is no lip, ovality or taper. and you will not keep the bore parallel with deglazing hones Cheers Colin NZ RE: Bore honing - Andy Bennett - 03-06-2018 Thanks everyone Am learning lots.
