RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Greig Smith - 28-02-2019 We have a welder chappie out here who can fix practically anything, but the catch comes in with the sellers "collection only" Alas it's a helluva commute for me & I don't really need another block or more springs... Aye Greig RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Tom Coates - 28-02-2019 My car is in having some new wings made at the moment. The profile is taken from Tom A's red car, adapted to suit my slightly flatter springs. The back wings were subject to long discussions to get the right clearance over the back wheels so they don't foul going over bumps with two people and boot full of luggage but without looking too high when its parked up and empty!... They look a bit high at the moment but are a bit closer than Tom's and hopefully will look ok when they are profiled and finished. I am going to send Tom's plans to Andrew Goodfellow when I'm done. RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Ruairidh Dunford - 28-02-2019 Very nice Tom - new sides to the bonnet as well I hear? I have always thought a lowered Cup would be a near perfect A7 road ride, hope it works! Are you coming to Guildtown?? RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - AllAlloyCup - 01-03-2019 Hi Tom Tom Abernethy kindly let me take the profiles from his dark red? Car. I took a big sheet of polycarbonate to his garage and traced front and back wings onto the plastic sheet, set square on the garage floor, and traced the outline with a magic marker. I’m relatively pleased with the wings I hand made partly at Duncan’s course and with a shrinker stretcher I bought with Neil. Will post some pics on my Cup thread tomorrow. Andrew will do you a great job in steel, but I wanted mine made in alloy. See you at Guildtown? Regards Bill G RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Tom Coates - 07-03-2019 Word travels fast in the GE community! Hopefully the bonnet sides will arrive today, Andy and Tom have sent me measurements and a photo to get the size and detailing correct so that should be an improvement over the current set-up. I agree that a lowered cup should work well, it'll be about an 1" 1/2 higher than a standard Ulster so hopefully will have similar road holding. I've managed to drop the seat base by about 2 inches at the back to get the seating position a bit lower too. David Cochrane has a similar set up and there is also a supercharged car which belongs to a friend of Tom's and sometimes comes to Brooklands. I'm just fiddling with the seat cushions at the moment, I think they may need more or bigger loops to hold the sausage bits together than I had originally specified. I'll let you know how they work when fitted. RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Ruairidh Dunford - 07-03-2019 Thanks Tom - good luck with the modifications! RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Ruairidh Dunford - 13-03-2019 After a very long drive - she's home!! RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - AllAlloyCup - 13-03-2019 Now the fun begins!! Best wishes Ruairidh! Regards Bill G RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Ruairidh Dunford - 24-03-2019 I managed to scrape some time this afternoon and fitted the Steering column and wheel - there was quite a bit of jiggling about to get it into the correct position but I now have space for my hand to fit around the whole wheel. I also made up a steering column support... I then fitted the engine, fuel tank hoop and the exhaust system - the standard system is tight but fitted without any real drama ... RE: Cup in a Box - resurrected from the old Forum... - Ruairidh Dunford - 24-03-2019 I then connected up the newly refurbished starter motor and fired the engine up again... Oil is starting get around and things are becoming quieter. I then placed the tank on the hoop and stood back - lovely! |
