Ruby Mk1 body number - darcher121 - 11-02-2021 I'm trying to trace and record as many part numbers as I can before clean up and welding starts. Would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what this body number is? I will start the bidding with RO 14269. Anyone agree or disagree? RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - JonE - 11-02-2021 Ruby would be designated ARQ and ARR and so could it be a Q as second digit. What do other Rubies have - is the A missing on the body stamp?? If you give your chassis number, can look and see if it fits with the series... RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - darcher121 - 11-02-2021 Definitely no A, but the first picture shows the O as possibly a Q. I can't find the chassis number yet. The body is coming off later today which should help in finding it. RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - Martin Prior - 11-02-2021 If you haven't already come across it, this will be invaluable in finding and interpreting numbers on your car: http://a7ca.org/downloads/QuoteThisNumber.pdf The body number is certainly prefixed by "RQ" (I'm sure that I can make out the tail on the Q). Where the "A" has gone is anybody's guess, but the way that rest of the number's been stamped looks as though someone had been hitting the hard stuff at lunchtime! RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - Jeff Taylor - 11-02-2021 According to R.J. Wyatt's book on 30th March 1935 a Mk1 Ruby was built with the Car Number: ARQ 16223 and Chassis Number: 219428 - so it would seem yours is a slightly earlier build Car Number: ARQ 14269. RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - JonE - 11-02-2021 you probably won't have a chassis stamp at all - it will be two big rivet holes under the starter motor if you are missing the chassis number plate. Fingers crossed yours may be early enough to have old stamp on the other side beyond the rear engine mount... RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - darcher121 - 11-02-2021 The numbers game so far..... Car Number ARQ671 (Plate on battery box, Chassis number plate missing, V5 correct) Mileage shown 50928.7 1st registered 1/10/1934 so built during Sept '34? Engine number M201197 (V5 correct) Head number 1a38oy Casting number not serial number I guess? Chassis number 199910 (stamped on chassis rail N/S behind engine mount) Gear box 2syn, number 1057 Dynamo Lucas C35A, Number 52683 dated 8.34 Starter Motor Lucas M35A-0 Type BN11(?), Number 52190 dated 7.34 Rear Axle No apparent markings on the top side. Either rusted off or are underneath covered by an inch of oily gunk. Any other numbers I should be searching for before I get the wire brushes out? A real shame the Austin records no longer exist! RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - Nigel Ricardo - 11-02-2021 Not under the starter on a 34 Jon , other side by the rear engine mounting RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - andrew34ruby - 11-02-2021 For comparison, here are the details of my Ruby. Mk 1 ARQ 1934 registered 31st December 1934. HV4459 is the original registration number and still on the car.. Chassis No 207243 Car No ARQ 6957 Engine M 230978 RE: Ruby Mk1 body number - darcher121 - 11-02-2021 Thats really useful Andrew, so my numbers don’t seem too off the mark. I bet you can enjoy driving yours while mine is a pile of bits, rust and gunk....? |
