The Reliant used a split bush in place of the roller style bearing assembly used in the Seven engine.

Early Reliant Crankcase - View of the centre main bearing assembly

This assembly is thinner then the 3 bearing Austin Seven version. The Crankshaft correspondingly was redesigned and thicker in the centre main area. As a result, the Reliant motor was highly successful and continued in production for years. The centre main bearing carrier was line bored to accommodate the OD of a standard Suzuki big end shell and the centre main journal ground to suit the ID of the shell.
